a call to theatre owners

I find going to the cinema a generally disappointing experience here. The average quality of the cinemas is just as good (if not better) compared to that of other places I've lived in. But some members of the audience are sorely lacking in etiquette. They answer their phones and talk freely during the screening. Sometimes they bring children and even babies to movies that are not age-appropriate. Naturally, the babies cry and the children are so bored they can't sit still and are a distracting presence as they wander around the theatre. Considering the price of tickets relative to the cost of life here, what are these people thinking?????

These miscreants are in the minority, but it only takes one loudmouth to spoil a screening. In my own native land, these problems were once very common, but they seem to have been largely solved. At the start of the movie there is usually a polite message asking people to turn off their cell phones and refrain from anti-social behaviour for the next two hours.

If anybody has any pull with anyone in the cinema business here, I ask him or her to bring this up. They will at least find one ready customer in me.

That is the reason why I haven't went watched a movie at a theater for a LONG time.  Who needs the headache.  Not me.  I would rather wait till the movie popped up in the DVD's here, and watch it at home.  For all of you with big flat screens, even better.

Give it time, theaters will vanish within 10 years or so, due to good tech. for consumers to watch it at home enjoyably, and for the reasons you mentioned (people talking during the movie, cell phones, etc)

I agree with you. And I will forward your suggestion to my friend who runs a cinema in Hefei, although I don't know whether it works. Some habits are minor but their accumulative effect is huge and it reflects the lack of necessary respect to others around. I just got an idea, if some people writes some short articles and sends to local newpaper, it may be noted by the community.
