Foreigners can buy Chinese Stocks

How can a foreigner invest in the mainland's stock markets? - China Daily

Q&A
How can a foreigner invest in the mainland's stock markets? (chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2010-08-04 14:48

Although foreigners are not allowed to trade in A shares directly, there are other ways to invest in China's stock markets.

Generally, foreign investors can purchase B shares in the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges, trade in China's stock market via the Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) system, or purchase China Exchange-Traded Funds {ETFs) on US stock exchanges.

There is one Chinese stock that I think holds a great deal of promise based on recent news:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/mobiledia/2011/08/19/steve-jobs-china-mobile-negotiate-iphone-deal/

Rather than buying it directly, I'm getting a diversified fund which includes it:

I expect it to pan out by late Oct./early Nov.

I'm looking for other VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology in China as well.
All indications are that this will be the biggest growth market until saturation.
A good 1-3 years, Chinese with their fascination for techy gadgets should be a boom!

Still not sure when this partnership will officially be launched (possibly early next year if Mark gets his way), but I put $ into both these stocks, as they will soar once it does.

China venturing with facebook could be a good thing as China will now have some restrictions on what info it can collect and how they can use it. The whole world needs privacy issues and concerns addressed.

Hyperbole? Perhaps. But I'm not taking any chances; I diverted my assets from the China securities market into U.S. treasury securities, a safe haven for now.

Sorry, but I disagree...
China has more control of finance than foreigners out of China can imagine.
The monitory system in China does not respond to global markets as others do...
Look at the exchange rates over the last 6 years and predictions of off shore predictors...
The bubble bust has not happened except for Shanghai and ShenZheng which ARE influenced by off shore investors...

But then what the "F" do I know...

My money is in business here but if I had extra cash or not living in China it would be invested in 2nd and 3rd tier cities with potential which are not influenced by foreign speculation.

I agree about the investing in 2nd and 3rd tier cities, especially real estate. In fact, I hope to buy an apt. within a couple of years. Though I think the bubble will burst, I don't believe it will happen for another 5-6 years. China is resourceful and will hold out longer than most economists think.

Facebook going public

I found this today
Facebook going public

http://www.mail.com/business/economy/1018256-will-facebook-deliver-ipo-surprise.html

February 01, 2012 — NEW YORK (AP) — Facebook, the social network that changed "friend" from a noun to a verb, is expected to file as early as Wednesday to sell stock on the open market. Its debut is likely to be the most talked-about initial public offering since Google in 2004.

The Menlo Park, Calif.-based company expects to raise as much as $10 billion, though some accounts say it could be less than that. At $10 billion, the company would be valued at $75 billion to $100 billion.

The highly anticipated documents Facebook files with the Securities and Exchange Commission will reveal how much it intends to raise from the stock market, what it plans to do with the money and details on the company's financial performance and future growth prospects.

A stock usually starts trading three to four months after the filing. Around the nation, regular investors and IPO watchers are anticipating some kind of twist — perhaps a provision for the 800 million users of Facebook, a company that promotes itself as all about personal connections, to get in on the action.
