over or under the GFW

Does anyone have any familiarity with web hosting services in China? I want to build a website and put it in on a server that makes it is as easily accessible for the barbarians outside the GFW as for those within it.

HostGator and DreamHost come highly recommended, but does anybody really know?

I assume Aussie Mike would have some suggestions about this. I mean, Hefeiexpat is usable without a VPN and loads just as fast from abroad as it does in China. But, I think it depends on exactly what you want to do.

Fair question. I meant to do some blogging. Any bloggers out there?

I use IBW for my chinese hosting.

They are a big company with a office in Hefei.
They maintain most of my domains that I use as link sites.
Once the page is poated, I don't access them for changes unless I really need to.
Some of my domain names are purely redirected to another site.

I've used them for many years now but I also use a web-hosting in Australia, England and US.

Contact me for the number.

Hostmonster has visibility and fairly quick loading speeds even in rural Anhui. GoDaddy is one of the ones you'll want to avoid, though.

By the way, on my phone the 'W' from the subject line was cut off, so it looked like this thread was called 'over or under the GF'.

Ok, carry on..,
