Kitten for sale
« on: December 01, 2014, 01:34:32 am »

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'm looking for a new home for a 10 week old kitten named "Gypsy".  I've had her for only 3 weeks now. I will soon be moving to Shanghai for a new and unexpected job and I'm unable to take her with me. She has been a great kitten so far. Very playful, healthy and quiet at night. I'm looking to sell her within the next month. She will be all up to date on her shots and vet visits by then.

I'm charging 200 RMB for her. I paid around 300 and I will include: Litter box, litter, food, toys, bedding, cat carrier/travel case for FREE! So it's a great deal!

Please contact me here or through my email if you are interested, or know anyone who would be interested.
Email: [email protected]

Preferably, I'd be looking for someone who is more settled and plans to stay in China long enough to take care of a pet.

I have pictures but I'm unable to post on here because 'the file size is too large". I can send pics to anyone interested.

Didn't you read The Little Prince?

Quote
“I am looking for friends. What does that mean -- tame?"

"It is an act too often neglected," said the fox. "It means to establish ties."

"To establish ties?"

"Just that," said the fox. "To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world....”

― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

You'll have to agree that it's irresponsible to default on the needs of your cat like this. Was abandonment part of the long term plan when you bought her three weeks ago? And why are you charging money? Isn't finding a safe, loving home among people that won't neglect her needs (again) the priority here?

I think the words "unexpected job offer" get this owner off the hook. Clearly, she bought the cat three weeks ago and in the interim has been -- unexpectedly -- offered a better job. If you invested $$ in an adorable little kitty kat and a bunch of accessories and then had to offload them a few weeks later, would you not first try to recoup some of that money if possible?

This ain't none of my goddam business... but my 2 mao are that I stand with our friend, No Friend, on this one. If the original poster actually likes her kitten and people offer to take it in, they are actually doing her a favor and shouldn't have to pay for it. If, on the other hand, the kitten is generally seen as just another object to be sold, well then I guess I'm the one making a mistake.

To stretch this to its hyperbolic limits, can you imagine someone saying to you: 'I unexpectedly have to dash out for a couple hours, can you please do me a favor and watch my kid? By the way, he's a really cute kid and costs me one hell a lot of a money that I would like to recoup, so you'll have to pay me 1000 RMB an hour for the privilege.'

I'm FAR from an irresponsible cat owner. I still have her and have spent close to 5000 RMB so far. I get her the best imported cat food from Taoboa, numerous vet visits for shots, 1000 RMB for spaying..etc.

I'm unable to take her Shanghai because animals are not allowed on trains or buses. The vets in Hefei are VERY sketchy. I've seen two vets that claim the rabies vaccine (which I would need to travel with her on the plane) has a 5% death rate in cats. This is crap since I contacted a vet in Shanghai that basically told me vets outside of China are often not properly trained and should be avoided. Several cats have died at the vet office that I'm currently seeing and simply don't TRUST getting a rabies vaccine here! That eliminates the plane at the moment.

My visa expires end of June and I have no intention of staying in Hefei. I have to be in Canada for the summer and then I'm returning to teach at NYU Shanghai Uni in Sept.

I admit I bought her on the spur of the moment and at the time I didn't realize I would run into these complications getting her on the plane/train/bus!

So I would appreciate if people would keep their ignorant comments to themselves as I have done an excellent job taking care of her so far. With that said, I'm still looking for a temporary home for her for two months over the summer until I can then figure out how to get her to Shanghai (possibly with a moving Van)...Once in Shanghai I plan to ship her to Canada on the plane! Here in Hefei, I basically can do nothing.

And yes I found a better job offer...NYU Shanghai. I had only ever planned to stay in Hefei for one year. Why would anyone stay longer here?
But I didn't realize it would be so difficult getting her on a plane/train/bus. But she is healthy and judging from how much money I have spent on her, I don't think 200 RMB is unreasonable considering all the food/accessories/toys/bedding that would be included. But I will find a way to get her to Shanghai as I prefer she doesn't stay living in a place like Hefei.

We have sent Ossie the Expat cat to and from Shanghai un-escorted many times now.
He is placed in a cat carry bag and placed in the luggage locker.
He does't particularly like it but he has not suffered from the ordeal.

We use the bus station on ShengLi Lu near but around the corner from the Holiday Inn GuJing.
