I know it's cliche, but I've always found Lost in Translation captures that feeling of being swept up in an unexpected adventure quite well. It reminds me of a time when my wife and I would seek out new experiences/friends/foods/sounds/smells (etc) while living in Shanghai (before we got old and boring).
