Work ethic in Hefei
« on: May 01, 2013, 07:17:02 am »

When I lived in Shanghai, people tended to work pretty hard.  By 'pretty hard' I mean foreign teachers would be up early and out the door 5 days a week.  Typically, foreign people and people working for foreign companies would work full 8 hour days.  At many of the local companies I taught at, local dudes would be cranking 10-12 hour days, 5 days a week (although the reality of this was often a lot of hanging around on QQ doing nothing).

So, all in all, I found people worked fairly long days.

What's the work ethic of Hefei like?  I'm hoping it is a bit more relaxed than Shanghai.

I'm not sure you are using ethics in the correct sense. Ethics are truely up to the individual although there is a collective sense of ethics.  Not obvious in business though. Expectations are lower here as is the wage. A foreign teacher here will average 16 hours per week for uni and public schools but 25 for private schools. 6 hour days, 5 days a week is usual.
