theatres showing movies in English
« on: October 14, 2011, 02:31:05 pm »

I'm sure all the main theaters show movies in English but they are not well advertised.
I've seen more movies in English in Hefei in more theatres than there are now.

Yes, I've watched movies in theaters in Hefei that have since closed.

For years I have approached theaters to advertise with us for free.
Typically, no response. They think there are no English only speaking people in Hefei except me and those who do speak English and Chinese will go to there website or read the Chinese papers.

WTFH?
I'm Australian, I like to add "Hell" to International colloquialisms.  ;D

Hi everyone! I think Wanda Plaza has some of the best theaters showing movies in English. I highly recommend it :) The seats are very nice and it is very clean. I've already gone a few times with my husband Marc and we've enjoyed all the films we've seen there so far. Not all the theaters are IMAX though. Only one is. So you can choose to go to a regular priced showing in a regular theater if you wish to save, as the IMAX theater is usually 100RMB. Buying the tickets can be scary at first as the screen with the times/schedule are all in Chinese characters. But there is a trick to go about that: I just grab one of the flyers/brochures available there that have pictures of the movies and I memorize the characters of the movie I want to watch and then look at the schedule screen to see the time I want. By now, I also know the 2 Chinese characters for English to make sure the movie I'm watching is in English. Then you simply point to the time you want when you buy the tickets. It's pretty easy and organized. :)

So far, I've seen Real Steel, The Flowers of War, The Adventures of Tin Tin and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol all at Wanda Plaza theaters. They were all very nice. Mission Impossible was my favorite as we had to watch it in IMAX and the effects were awesome!

I believe they are showing John Carter now, a Disney epic science fiction film supposed to be pretty good. :) The weekends can get pretty crowded, so I still prefer my dvds at home, but it's still worth it to watch a movie in a theater once in awhile.

Having been to the cinema at Wanda Plaza, I would agree that it is the best. However, I am still interested to see some of the other cinemas downtown. Could anyone who has been to a couple of movie houses here try to rate the others?
