Hi there community and special Hello to Mike,
me and my family (Daughter now 8 months old) are supposed to come to Hefei as Expats for my company for the minimum duration of 3 years.
At the moment I am on a company trip here till next Thursday and will come back in April with my family for a "Look & See" travel so that my wife also gets a glimpse on this.
I for my part am a very adaptable person but my wife is the weak point I have to convince as the care of our daughter has the highest priority for here. We both know that Hefei (yet) can't keep up with German standards considering education, healh care and so on, but I personally think that it is on a good way. Since the start up of our plant here in Hefei in 2003 much has changed from what i hear out of stories and it is going on as I right this now. But maybe this community can help with me (as my company also of course does) to gather more information. Of course I have read most of the posts here considering kindergarten and hospitals, especially the newest post on english speaking doctors in hospitals was helpful. Still some questions, which might be forgiven if asked for the XXXth time:
- how is the stand on kindergardens with english speaking / educating nursery teachers ?
+ age of entry ?
+ any special criterias like house-trained / no diapers ?
- I prefer the newly built town part down at Lake Chao
+ how is the situation there ?
+ heard there is also a new hospital ? standards ?
+ apartments for rent ? costs ? furnishing ?
+ how is the shooping mall out there ? I only know the Lotus Center next to Grand Park Hotel
+ any chance to get pre cooked and blended baby mash ? we need some in April

- Continental has also started a new plant here and there should be some more european expats running around now
+ any guess where they might live ?
+ kids and above mentioned points ?
That should be it for the moment. Thanks to allo who take time to read all what I wrote and might give some clues that make my wife (and of course also me) feel better and make the right decision for our future.
Greetings,
David from Bavaria ;-)
