Things have become much worse here
« on: November 26, 2008, 04:02:06 am »

since the Olympic Games, that's my impreession. Before it was possible to read all German newspapers in the internet almost all the time, now the access is mostly hindered so that while opening one site I can go and wash last week's dishes or they don't open at all. Chinese websites open in no time. Navigation in www.fotocommunity.de is also hindered, and in http://forum.chinaseite.de as well, if it an be opened at all. And above all the skype connection to German telephones has been cut.
I don't want to comment this now, I'm just telling you the facts, and I'd like to know if this is just a Chinese-German problem or if you, coming from other countries in the world have similiar problems.

My internet is pretty good.  In fact it improved hugely when I had China Telecom fix some line problems recently. I access news sites all over the world in english every day no problems. Wikipedea... no problems.

So I am happier than ever! 8)

@wizard: Thanks for the information. All the Germans I know in Hefei have the same problems as me and they all live on the campus of the same university. Interesting.

I'm German and I have no problem opening German websites. Biggest problem are www.apple.com and www.facebook.com - in addition to all the Google pics, of course :(
It is my understanding that not only does the Great Firewall play a role in this, but the fiber cables, or the cables running to certain fiber cables (don't get technical on me please) are somewhat old and that is why websites from certain regions or in certain parts of the city cannot be opened well.

The only problem I have besides lack of speed is getting to many free blog sites.
Mind you, I don't tend to visit the most popular sites  ::)
I hear they have a few problems...

Inner city has always been a problem for getting taxis. I tend to walk to ShouChun Lu but still can have problems.

My suggestions
We are in a classical society, thus schedule your hours as per societal norms rather than personal shoots, eschewed yourself from embarrassments, taxi-chase marathons and cultural indignation….

haha reminds me of a day I had a 100m  taxi chase with a 70years old……….can’t tell how ,home advantage, shortcuts, yelling or what, but somehow she got it before me
