I'm trying...
What do you want to know?

10 years of providing information for free, and you say "shitty forum"?   What do you expect?

Thousands of people from all over the globe consider this forum the main source of informative contact in English for Hefei and China...

It's not fancy, but it is cheap...

All you have to do is ask, not critise...  This is a volunteer forum, not commercial...
Just because you asked a question and no one responded in the time frame you wanted...

Try a second time... politely! Not offensively!
You may get a positive response...

Forgive me for being blunt but I get this kind of abuse on a regular basis...
However, most people I actually meet, thank me for providing such a service...

I usuallly give the forum contributors time to respond before I do but rarely do posts go unanswered...

Try again but be nice!

Try this travel agent. He speaks good Engish and I'm sure he can arrange a guided tour for you.

Otherwise, the folks at easychinatour.com have English speaking guides who can help.

Also check out Ctrip.com tour services.

If you do use a tour operator, please write a review of them on this site when you come back.

I visited HuangShan during the National holidays once.  Never again during those holidays.
I got to the base of the mountain at 6.30am but the ticket offices had already closed and not opening for 3 hours due to number of people already on the mountain.

Sarah, if you're looking for a trip I'd recommend contacting Nature Hsu.

http://www.touristlink.com/user/nature-hsu.html
http://www.synotrip.com/nature1984

https://www.facebook.com/NatureHsuTours

Nature was a TOEFL and English teacher at Hefei No. 1 High School for many years. He's currently working in Nanjing, but he does travel guide services in his free time. His English is fluent, very friendly and outgoing, and is extremely knowledgeable about all things relating to Chinese history and culture.

His QQ is: 361894222
I'm not sure his current phone number though. If you provide me your contact information, I can make sure he gets in touch with you ASAP. Let me know!

I also recommend going with an individual guide rather than a bigger tour group. That way you have more flexibility to do and see what you want.

I would discourage you from going during any holiday period, particularly the upcoming National Day holiday. It will be packed like you can't imagine. A few years ago, I went to Huangshan during a holiday. The main (central) trails on mountains were jam packed to the point where you could hardly move. There were tons of tour groups and guides, all of whom insisted on bellowing through portable megaphones. With so many people there at one time, it was actually dangerous in places. So definitely go during off-peak times.

For those of you who are into hiking, here's a map. http://www.colourhs.com/a/huangshantutechan/huangshanlvyougonglue/2012/0502/4504.html

The main access to the mountains is via a cable car (circle at the bottom). Bright Top peak is kinda the central scenic area of the mountains, and people go there every morning to watch the sun rise. If the weather is right, it's one of the places where you're literally on top of a sea of clouds. Quite near there is a bunch of short walking trails and hotels. I recommend that people stay on the mountain for a night, even though the hotels tend to be more expensive. On the mountains, signage everywhere usually includes English. Personally speaking, I think you need to spend a minimum of two days actually in the mountains themselves.

On this map, I've marked the western route (often referred to as the Western Steps) in red. If you're fit and have time, it's a spectacular walk and will show you the very best of Huangshan scenery. It takes a good 6 to 8 hours and involves pretty strenuous climbing and descending. Set out early in the morning. There aren't many people along this route and you can find some tranquility.

Like I said before, if you're going to the mountains, also make time to visit Hong Cun and Xidi villages, which are located in the counties surrounding Huangshan mountains. If you only have time to see one, make it Hong Cun. Also recommended is Tunxi old street and Jade Valley.

Generally speaking, 4-5 days is enough to explore Huangshan mountains and surrounding counties. Anything less is really not enough in my opinion.

I just visited Huangshan last week and, oh boy, my legs were hurting. My calfs and thighs were very sore. Luckily I bought a walking stick to save my knees.

Second time I went to Huangshan. This time I visited Bright Top peak, while the first time around I visited Lotus Peak.

I witnessed snow for the very first time in my life on top of Bright Top peak. Amazing, and magical. We never get snow in Perth, Western Australia so it was wonderful to finally witness and touch snow for my very first time.

Hefei was my first real experience with snow back in 2004.
I'm so glad we do not get snow in Perth though, it would seriously screw up our great weather.
