Hello.
I'm new here and am teaching in Hefei. I am the only expat at my school and would like to find out where to go for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas kinds of things. I have found the Shipyard Cafe. Are there any other coffee shops, etc. where I might find other expats?

Thanks!

BYOB.

So it's a bar, but you bring your own beverage? Weeknights or weekends?

Kidding...sort of. If you appreciate good beer, Knights is not the place to go. I bring my own and just buy an iced tea. But if you're just looking to meet expats, then it's probably your best option in Hefei.

Got it. No gourmet fare, but good people.

Not a Coffee shop, but a few of us go to On The Way (which is by Knights).
But, usually it's Shipyard or Knights. Smaller groups go other places.

On the Way bar is located in the University 'city' of the new Technology school (合肥工业大学 new campus). Most taxi drivers know 大学城 and will take you to the general area.
I think a lot of foreigners are successful making it that far, but then fail to find the bar. I can recall a post or two on here saying as much. I will attempt to map it from here.

I think most taxis will bring you up Fei Cui road and turn right into the school road.
If you've never been to On The Way bar, it's got a lot of live local music as well as foreign bands touring China. Just this week, there was an awesome bass drum duo called SOBAT from Europe. They typically play rock, heavy metal, and other rock variants at the bar, but i've seen some punk bands (had a good one from argentina last year), turbo folk, open mic nights, more traditional chinese folk music, and all kinds of other stuff.
It features a full bar with student friendly prices (though the beer selections aren't too great, and the mixed drinks aren't so hot either), if you're there to pound hard alcohol, it's a good place to go.
They also have an AMAZING dvd collection to which they don't use to it's full potential, playing some really awesome music dvds every night like Nirvana unplugged, Metallica, Queen, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, etc.
Occasional cover charges on nights with live bands. Horrible bathrooms (which i've kindly given out monikers of "Deathproof" and "3:10 to Yuma"
I go about twice a week without fail. :-X
