Title: "Thanksgiving Day" and turkey
Post by: Andy Woo on November 24, 2011, 01:16:19 pm
Qīn'ài de péngyou men,
Dear friends,

míngtiān shì Gǎn'ēnjié,
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day ,

zhù dàjiā Gǎnēnjié kuàilè!
May everyone happy Thanksgiving!

Chinese is a logical language, especiall in its word-coinning.Literally, "Gǎn" is "to thank","ēn" is "the kindness(of God)","jié" is festival. So it is a festival that we need to be thankful for the kindness of God in Chinese language.

Turkey is "huǒjī" in Chinese."huǒ" means "fire", "jī" is "chicken", so it is "fire chicken". I don't know why. Please feel free to give your comments and opinions.
