Real Japanese restaurant!
In fact it was very well attended by Japanese people, with the waitresses speaking some Japanese (at least basic interaction and names on the menu), owned by a Japanese man and with Japanese head chef!!
It is located in MingZhu square (yeah for me!!), more or less in the middle of Beihai road just around the corner of the Lotus supermarket, compressed between several hot pot restaurants and in front of the Sanna river ones)

Price: not cheap..
Food quality: very good
Drink offer: lots of Japanese stuff, with Asahi beer
Portions: little small maybe
but I had real okonomiyaki (Japanese "pizza"), extremely good eel, natto (also very good, real one both in taste and way to present!) and a couple of other servings.
From a Japanese food (and country) lover like me, worth trying!!

Thanks for posting this info Andy - I've been hard pressed to find good Japanese cuisine in Hefei. Will definitely check it out. The Asahi is the perfect complement to sashimi, at least as far as Asian beers go.
-
forgot to say that sashimi and sushi are not really part of the menu (or i could not see):
they cannot do miracles anyway and real japanese would not accept second (or third, forth..) rate fish for sushi/sashimi.
the menu is more about other kind of japanese cooking.
a lake/river city as Hefei will never have good sushi/sashimi place, good enough for "spoiled" Japanese ;)
and i understand perfectly: i had the best sushi of my life at Tsukiji, Tokyo fish market, after visiting the market form 4am.. to 5:30am when we had breakfast with the most fresh fish you can dream!!!!
what a day my friend!!
anyway, as soon as i'm back from norway (11th october) we can go together!!!
-
I'd like to join you guys for some good Japanese cuisine. :P
I hope they have good saki. ;D
-
As long as they at least have shrimp tempura, I'll be happy. I think my school cafeteria serves second rate fish from the lake (seriously). But the Tokyo fish market at 5 am? - that sounds like culinary heaven. Sake (cold or warm) is the way to go!
-
they had a quite large offer of different sake but i did not check the prices..
Tokyo market was amazing.. i still haven't posted the pics..
we went there at 4am!
strolled around watching even a part of the auction of huge tunas and then just.. enjoy a fish heaven!!
and then the sushi...
it had been a wonderful day in Tokyo.....
missing japan so much.....

Welcome back Andy! I'll definitely have to visit Japan and get some first rate sashimi. My next best option is to go to Shanghai to get it. Might be worth the 3hr. train ride alone.
-
the problem of knowing so many japanese in shanghai is when i ask where to go to enjoy some acceptable sushi there..
they all say not good and too expensive.. respect to japan!!!
anyway i had acceptable/good sushi there (for my european standards) ;D
but there are good japanese restaurant there too, even if not sushi!
-
been with both, Japanese and Chinese girls..
been happy and unhappy, independently from the country..
why China? because i could not find a job in Japan.. YET!!!
;D
why China?
it is a first step from far europe to beloved Japan.. at least I was there in June:

and hope to go back there soon.. Tokyo maybe..
no sushi in Kyoto though :'(
we should have a dinner in that Jap place.. but notice it is not a cheap one unfortunately :)

Chinese, Japanese, European or any other nationallity; the females are still women and I doubt if I will ever understand that species. ??? They really confuse the hell out of me. They defy all male logic.
They like money because they are like money ... Can't live without it and can't live with it.

let's not be too sexist here..
i like money too..
but i got much less to offer than a pretty asian girl ;D :)
