Hi Everyone.
I just touched down in Hefei last night, will be assigned here for at least 1 year plus. So far the place looks ok-will have to get used to the perpetual grey overcast over the city. I hope that the city does get some blue skies, but I was warned before I came here to kiss blue skies goodbye as they will be all but a thing of the past and to get used to the haze.
Anyways my first question if anyone can help me is: where can I get English language DVD's in Hefei? This is absolutely vital for survival in Hefei.
thanks in advance.

First...welcome to Hefei 8) The skies do go blue, although you have landed when its been raining for a few days. ( ya missed the hot weather)
As for English DVDs....
There are a few shops that do them, infact most of them have quite a few ranging from 10rmb to about 15rmb
I use a shop along Jinzhai lu, and there is alo one near guo guo. there are a few dotted around so ya wont have too much trouble. but if you go and your not sure, just ask them to play it breifly and they will..
any other help , just ask and someone will be able to help.
I'll try to get the addresses for you. where in Hefei are you?

If you get to my place, I have thousands of DVD's going back almost 10 years.
You can borrow a case of 150 dvd's tp get started but they must come back. ;D

forget DVDs - download:
http://www.ppstream.com/ (http://www.ppstream.com/)
http://www.pptv.com/ (http://www.pptv.com/)
you do not even need a very fast connection (mine sucks) or to really know chinese (i don't): after translating a coupl of times the internet page and getting the words for movies, thriller, action, dram, etc.. you'll find all for free!
;D
have a good time!

Thanks for the tip Andy.
Sounds good- but call me old school its not my cup of tea to watch movies from a lap top. I need to be lying in the bed, snacks in hand and watching it on the big screen( a TV)
-
Laptop movies are for traveling, I prefer to lay back and watch movies projected on the wall.
Hard drive space is more valuable for music and it's harder to borrow movies.
-
the laptop is my tv...
:D
-
Bonnie, what exactly do you mean by women street ... ? Can you inform the pinyin chinese name of this street ?
Thanksssssss
Francois

The one I tend to go to is on the street opposite the Bank of China in ChaingJiang Zhong Lu.
It's the street which leads to the Temple Markets gate, the shop is about 50-100 metres on the right hand side.

I second Andy. You can always use an HDMI cable to hook your laptop to your tv for PPLive or downloaded movies, which is what I do. You could also burn movies you have downloaded for use on a dvd player (tedious), or watch cable tv, which has a few good channels at least (11, 77).
