Hi all,
Hefei doesn't have much live music, but there is some, and if you know of any, I for one would like to know about it!
Here's what i know of:
Xigua ren Yuedui (Watermelon Man):Fridays and
Sundays (
10pm) at Revolutionary (Ge Min Zhe Jiuba) on Jin Zhai Lu.
Fridays are more upbeat, Latin/funky/bluesy jazz. Sundays are a bit more chilled out usually but still jazz based.
Sunday afternoons (14:30 - 17:30) Hilton Hefei (Xi er dun Jiudian), relaxed standards in the lobby piano bar.
Gun Gua Yuedui (The Rolling Melons)Saturdays (10pm) at Revolutionary (Ge Min Zhe Jiuba) on Jin Zhai Lu.
Random selection of (mostly old-skool) covers from the Beatles and the Stones, to Hendrix and Chuck Berry.
There's a fairly new bar on Hong Xing Lu (No. 130)called Huatong Jiu ba (the Flower Children Bar). It's a cool venue (beer = 10yuan or free for musicians, good music selection, pool table, sofas, Jim Morrisson posters...), and they often have foreign bands and bands from across China playing. (I saw a Beijing based band doing avant garde free form jazz - random, but ace, and a breath of fresh air from the sickeningly sweet "wo ai ni" style Chinese pop!). They have a website for listings but it's all in Chinese -
www.m0551.com There's a
St. Patricks day gig there on the
17th of March. Mixture of musical styles an instruments, but all Irish.
That's pretty much all i know about live music in Hefei. If anyone else knows of an upcoming gig (any style/genre!), please post! Or If anyone plays jazz/blues and want's to jam, send me a message.
Cheers, Dave
