Examples of accommodation available in Hefei
« on: February 17, 2011, 06:40:43 am »

One of my many diverse experiences was a real estate rep in Australia.
I'll develop this into a section where I'll give assessments of various properties to assist you with rental or purchase.
Of course will can assist you further.

Some considerations
  > Hefei is a rapidly expanding city which is planned to be as big as Shanghai was in 2005, some 20,000,000 people.
  > Hefei is a 3rd tier city in transition to 2nd tier.
  > Hefei will become a lakeside city. ChaoHu.
  > FeiDong and FeiXi will become suburbs of Hefei.
  > Much of the infrastructure is completed or near completion (roads, utitilies,) to BinHu.
  > Fast rail is complete, 3 hours to Shanghai.
  > Technology and development zones are filling up.
  > The international airport is under construction for 8,000,000 passengers per year.
  > Hefei Ancient is continuously being redeveloped.
  > Investment opportunity abounds.
This bubble has a looonnngg way to go before it pops.

Is there a website where we can view current units available for rent, or prices/descriptions? I've googled and among the results, have only found 1 actual apartment.

Hi Bonnie! How about a private apartment with one bedroom? How much would that cost, more or less? I am only curious about the cost, as I need to decide if I will take accommodations from my place of work or choose a housing allowance. Thanks!

Hi - so happy to have found this forum, thanks Aussie Mike, and your team - once we're settled in and I've built up a bit of a thirst I'll introduce myself by coming over to your restaurant for a meal and a cold one mate.

Meanwhile, my wife and I are moving to Hefei in a few days, looking for an apartment; Bonnie, can you please help us, we're looking at Shushan area, near the park. My wife is Chinese, you have the experience, professionalism and friendliness. We're moving from Suzhou. We need an honest landlord, women usually make the best and give the deposit back ;)  +/- 1000 a month 2/1/1 (bedroom living bath laundry room balcony furnished with quality furniture above 3rd floor  :-) - a listing would be wonderful. We look forward to meeting you we arrive next week. :-)

Hi, Welcome,
You may need to look at 1500 per month to get a new sizeable place.
Very few old places in this area.

Bonnie will check some out for you.

Prices are drastically increasing, especially where we found our place near the mountain at French Annecy.
It's because of all the other expats from Conti there.
We had a look at one apartment and the landlord (female) told us that she wanted 8000rmb per month.
The German family that lived there before payed 6400rmb.
Crazy lady.

Our place now at the same place costs 5000rmb...but who cares...company pays :-)

I will arrive in two weeks and my wife will follow in January.
Hope to meet some of you for an evening beer or so.

Greetz,
David

My experience is also that those who demand high rents are usually those who will never intend to return your deposit which they also demand to be high.  Total rip off on all fronts.

We try to keep up to date with rentals in all areas of Hefei for all standards of accommodation. If you are not sure what you should be paying then we can suggest some standard rates for you to negotiate with.

yes, Feicui lake could totally go for that amount, i mean it's a house! I'm guessing those landlord enjoy scamming poor Laowais; they cant speak Chinese, have little or less idea about here. i myself live in a 2 bed apt with my wife, (was new when we moved in, good furnishing and everything) and we only pay 900! that was about a year ago, and we still living there.

This high rent thing also reminded me of my trip to the panda research centre in Chengdu last spring, where people were queing up to take a photo with a PANDA for 1000RMB entrance fee! And OFC 99.9% were foreigners... No Chinese would pay such ri-dic-culous  ;D amount.

My advice is, to know the price of something here, first think about the price in your country, then divide by 4, that's the real price here in hefei! 8)

Basically 1 yuan has the same spending value in China as 1 dollar has back home for daily commodities
e.g. a bottle of coke is 3rmb in China but 3 dollars in Australia and a shirt which costs 50 rmb here will cost 50 dollars back home. That is the nature of currency exchange rate fluctuation.
