Olympic Fever..
« on: July 15, 2008, 06:44:14 am »

As Beijing braces up for the world, the fever is out there, going to Beijing now would be a hectic task..

As for expats in the locality that plan to hang around please do yourself a favor,

A favor of holding your passport wherever you go,

Hefei is brimming up, close sources to the bureau say expats would be randomly stopped and asked to produce their documents on the spot, it would be an understatement saying the the local bureau in hefei are strict and rather tight asses...

Well failure to produce this, i dont know the consequences, so lets brace up,

A colleague who went on an outing by the Lake very late in the evening, dont ask me for wat?? hunting?? ;D was asked and thank his stars for the mere fact that i was in the mood to bail him out by bringing his documents to the local bureau that held him...

His stars shone as soon as i arrived and he was allowed to go home, so the question is what happens if he has no one to produce his documents, you dont want to be one of those people that would randomly miss from this place..

.....................I have spoken..................

I would like to say that like i earlier mentioned that I had authoritative sources informing me of this situtation where foreigners would be told to produce their documents on the spot, so that is where the authority and source comes from. I am not God, GOd holds the supreme authoriity.

In response to your question, this colleague of mine is white white caucasion in appearance and it was rather an embarassing night. ???

I did read your detailed post on visas but nevertheless we are all doing ourselves a great favor by informing and educating others of the imminent dangers that might lie ahead.

I hope we can all lookout for each other more and be ever more informative as we have been on issues affecting expats in general.

Certainly the process of obtaining visas is becoming more difficult.
I've had my visa process delayed a few times, the last time was last week as they wanted me to go in and answer some questions.
All quite formal but no reall problem.

I hope to collect it this week.

The point is; don't expect things to go smoothly.

Despite the tight security and new visa policies,I guess it has just become more bureaucratic and getting the right documents required.I currently got two valid residency for two different cities,Hefei inclusive, without any troubles..............................just some interviews:

So,just play along  legally and you're up for a visa.........................nothing much about olympics. Expats will always be needed no matter the moment

Although they didn't stamp "CANCELLED" on your first visa, it is no longer valid.
I'm in ShenZhen now but will go to HongKong tomorrow to arrange my "Z" Visa.

I'll let you know how it goes.
