A poem for Haiti

Oh God !!!!Not Haiti Again

I am a human being
Nothing human can be alien to me!
Haiti!!together we mourn

Two hundred years of your Independence,
Yet I still wonder if this is your sentence.

You've been facing struggles since you began.
So, giving up on should never be a plan.
Instead, the world should lend a helping hand.
Surely then you would become a prosperous land.

Since of your demise, I am not yet convinced.
When I pray at night I pray that you be blessed.

Though you are said to be one of the poorest.
Those who have seen you have seen a treasure chest.
I know that right now you are put to the test,
But the day will come when you will finally rest

Though they escaped from a land of abuse,
Their leadership was corrupted by misuse.

The price of a life one seldom treasures,
The cost of reform was deftly unmeasured.

The bounty of 'freedom' was at the expense of the poor,
Unified reaction now hammers at the door.

Perhaps again embattled they will assimilate,
Join the world at large at a new gate.
