New Japanese restaurant in Hefei!
«

Real Japanese restaurant!
In fact it was very well attended by Japanese people, with the waitresses speaking some Japanese (at least basic interaction and names on the menu), owned by a Japanese man and with Japanese head chef!!
It is located in MingZhu square (yeah for me!!), more or less in the middle of Beihai road just around the corner of the Lotus supermarket, compressed between several hot pot restaurants and in front of the Sanna river ones)

Price: not cheap..
Food quality: very good
Drink offer: lots of Japanese stuff, with Asahi beer
Portions: little small maybe
but I had real okonomiyaki (Japanese "pizza"), extremely good eel, natto (also very good, real one both in taste and way to present!) and a couple of other servings.
From a Japanese food (and country) lover like me, worth trying!!

Thanks for posting this info Andy - I've been hard pressed to find good Japanese cuisine in Hefei. Will definitely check it out. The Asahi is the perfect complement to sashimi, at least as far as Asian beers go.

forgot to say that sashimi and sushi are not really part of the menu (or i could not see):
they cannot do miracles anyway and real japanese would not accept second (or third, forth..) rate fish for sushi/sashimi.
the menu is more about other kind of japanese cooking.
a lake/river city as Hefei will never have good sushi/sashimi place, good enough for "spoiled" Japanese
and i understand perfectly: i had the best sushi of my life at Tsukiji, Tokyo fish market, after visiting the market form 4am.. to 5:30am when we had breakfast with the most fresh fish you can dream!!!!
what a day my friend!!
anyway, as soon as i'm back from norway (11th october) we can go together!!!

As long as they at least have shrimp tempura, I'll be happy. I think my school cafeteria serves second rate fish from the lake (seriously). But the Tokyo fish market at 5 am? - that sounds like culinary heaven. Sake (cold or warm) is the way to go!

Welcome back Andy! I'll definitely have to visit Japan and get some first rate sashimi. My next best option is to go to Shanghai to get it. Might be worth the 3hr. train ride alone.

A Chinese girl in Wuhan once told me, there are four things that makes a man happy: first, a big British style mansion; second, US dollars; third, Chinese food; finally, a Japanese woman!
So WTF are we doing in China?
There are four things that make me happy, first, when my daughter speaks English; second, when the USD goes down; third, when the USD goes down; finally, when silver goes up & I make cash toward making ground on my target.
I might add, Chinese girls seldom ever make me happy. In their world, everything comes at a price - be it monetarily, socially or emotionally - they can be very taxing. Japanese girls are happy to be taught about about life; whereas, Chinese girls are akin to - what you can do to make my life happy.
An example of this Chinese girl phenomenon is this; in 2007 I came across to Hefei from Wuhan. I was promised a particular job title by one of the founding executives of the company. Of course, being a she and being in China, she is a Chinese girl. Additionally, I was promised the same function & duty title by a Chinese girl -'my regional boss'- in Hefei three years ago. I somewhat functioned in this job for 4.5 years and finally they decided to give me a new job title other than their relegated title to a lower level. Upon resigning my former position 10 times, which they never accepted, they finally gave me the title that was promised in Wuhan 5 years ago. The icing on the cake is that now all the Chinese girls I helped train and nominate for promotions (the same ones who assume they became my bosses) are now running around congratulating me on a promotion with a contemptuous look on their faces. All I said to my HRM was - give me the money honey and pass that info on to my executive - because that is all this job means to me now!
Chinese girls, they look nice (that makes me happy too) - sometimes smell nice - but what's in their heads is two quid short of a pound ... give me sushi and a flagon of sake any day!

Chinese, Japanese, European or any other nationallity; the females are still women and I doubt if I will ever understand that species.
They really confuse the hell out of me. They defy all male logic.
They like money because
they are like money
