Whatever the reason, I thought SARFT damaged its credibility. Pulling the film at the last minute made it look both heavy-handed and incompent. Lacking an inside source, I can only imagine that the conversation amongst themselves went something like this:
'You have actually watched this movie, right?'
'Me?! I thought you were going to watch it. I had to watch Titanic 3D. I'm not even supposed to here; I'm officially still on sick leave, remember?'
'All right, all right. It opens tonight. It's only 2 o'clock. Let's watch the damn thing together.'
3 hours go by. Two officials stagger out of the dark cinema into light of day, more blinded by what they have seen on the screen than the sunlight outside.
'Well-endowed black men being flagellated naked?'
'Slaves overthrowing their cruel masters?'
'This is why we killed Kill Bill in the first place'
'Screening time's in a few hours. What are we gonna do?'
'Here's an idea... How about we re-release Titanic?'
A measured pause follows.
'Worth a shot.'
