Title: Madison bar closed? No, just moved!
Post by: cameron326 on March 08, 2012, 08:49:29 am
Has anyone been to Madison bar recently (near Huangshan dashan if I remember rightly?) The one with the homebrewed beer and pool table. Went there a couple of times recently around 9/10pm only to find the downstairs doors locked and no sign of life. So I guess they've either shut it down completely or changing ownership or something. Shame if they've closed as it was one of the better places I've seen in Hefei imo. Anyone got any info?

i was going to post this as well!
stepped in front of it saturday and it seems so..
all dark and door closed!!

i used to go there very often but the standard had dropped incredibly, especially for laowai!!
the last times i was there it was really dead place.. full only for bbq!

one of the guy working there, John (chinese), now works in a place that is quite similar, but less central.. and even more quite the only time i went there.. i can post more later!

Thanks for the reply. Any not-too-loud pub in hefei? I'm staying near 1912 street but the pubs were below average and mostly closed down now.

closed already???
i have been there a few times only...

actually before i left the best place was knight bar in jinzhai lu.. but yes, far too loud!

on the street of the big park in the center there is another little bar, called Morgans'.. we used to go there for football world cup in 2010..
but after that the bar was extremely dead. too quiet!!

bitburger might be the place for you.. little expensive though..
but in the same street there is another tiny place, very cute, called Shipyard : http://hefeiexpat.com/forum/food/shipyard-cafe/ (http://hefeiexpat.com/forum/food/shipyard-cafe/)..

this is probably good, but tiny..
great beer though and very good coffee!

good luck!

bar goers, why not open a bar by yourself?  atmosphere and quality here may be quite different from those in your hometown, which i can tell.  it may be an opportunity for you to establish somewhere deserving our time, money and passion.

The Madison has moved back into one of it's original premises. It's between the corner of JinZhai Lu and the CBD Building.
It is on the west side of the TianDu Hotel on the corner of ChangJiang Lu and YongHong Lu it's up stairs on the second floor.
They still have pool table and dart board.

Because, you need a gimmick if you're not already established. There are quite a few bars already open or opening, so unless you have a 'catch' or a gimmick, it's gonna be hard to compete. Basically, too much competition to make it worth while. IMHO.
