I thought about putting a list of groceries that I am going to purchase over time from Carrefour, and their prices, to let others know what they are, if they plan on buying them in the future.  I will update the list as more items are purchased.  And just to add, this Carrefour is for the Chang Jiang Store.

Chips in a Cup Chocolate Chip Cookies, 80 grams, 12.90RMB (imported, Korea).
Doritos Nacho Cheese, 198 grams, 29.90RMB (imported, U.S.).  Note, contains MSG (which is odd because it's made in the U.S.).
Doritos Nacho Cheesier Flavor, 95 grams, 4.90RMB (domestic).  Note, doesn't contain MSG (again, odd because it was made in China).

Just to let people know, if they don't know already, Chang Jiang Carrefour is now ok to go to.  I went through the back entrance, where there were quite a few cops.  Also, inside Carrefour there were policemen as well.  The front of Carrefour, I noticed some commotion, but nothing serious happened.

About the imported foods section, I noticed no garbanzo beans in a can, which is too bad because I like to make hummus.  So, I went the to newest Carrefour and found two there.  I will never go back to that one again, unless I REALLY need to.  Exiting the food area from the third floor after you've paid for things is REALLY a pain in the arse.  I must have walked 2 KM's to finally reach the outside.  And that place was like an oven today, whereas the other one that I went to (Chang Jiang) was much more pleasant.

I will continue to update the groceries list as I buy more things.

A television cameraman was hurt yesterday in a clash between public security officers and Hong Kong journalists covering a protest against French supermarket chain Carrefour in Hefei, Anhui province.

The officers also took away the press cards of journalists from TVB and Cable TV.

Hefei information office representatives later apologized, saying the officers did not know they were journalists, and returned the press cards.

ATV journalists covering a Wuhan, Hubei province, protest were also stopped and questioned by public security officers.

The thing that gets me the most about this, is the fact that they targeted Carrefour, just because they are from France, but in fact had nothing to do with what happened before.  Some people will say that they have to do something, can't just sit around twiddling thumbs, but I wish the people would realize that this only hurts Chinese people in the short run.  There are many shops in the Carrefour building that are owned solely by Chinese people, and because of the lack of traffic that I saw during my recent trip there, and I am sure in the near future, a lot of them will be financially unstable.  So, it really makes me laugh at what "difference" this makes.  The things they do here in Hefei will not be shown overseas.  So, this is just a unity thing, rather than anything else.

The issue here is that the boss of C4 had allegedly donated money to the DL in Tibet in one situation
and he also stated that China should not hold the Olympics.

This is what they are protesting about.

In part yes, but from all the people I spoke with (about 10 or so), they all mentioned Carrefour as being the closest thing to France and said that they love China, and feel like they have to do something.  Most, if not all of the people that are protesting around Carrefour are students.  I haven't spoken to any, but I am sure most of them don't know about the two things you have mentioned, Mike.  It's the same everywhere.  An incident is shown on tv regarding someone or some place doing something to your home country, and from there the energy builds.  So, it all started from the torch incident.

This is a very informative piece of work Kaibo 开 博, it must have taken you a very long time to write, it took me long enough to read but definately worth it.

The greatest problem I see is religion itself or rather the hypocracy of religion. I can't think of any global conflict that has not been caused or supported by religion. Even that latest conflict instigated by the US was based on religion.

Bush was condemming the way the Qurran was being used to inflict such suffering on the world through terrorism then ended his speech by saying something like, "With God's help we will win this war".

One of the great things I love about China is the fact that they really are not religious in the sense of most religions that worship a non-human being.  I belive this is the main reason that Chinese are essentially a gentle peaceful race.

Which brings me to my points;
Avoid knee-jerk reactions and search for effective, peaceful methods for solving the world's problems such as these.

Condem Nations which intervene in other Nation's affairs for their own political or financial gains.

Keep religion and politics out of the Olympic Games. Keep the spirit of friendship and personal achievements while maintaining National Pride.

Learn from the mistakes made throughout history and not perpetuate them into the future.

Let's focus on establishing peace throughout the world and abolish poverty, hunger, poor health and excessive greed NOW, not in the future.

We are all Global Ren, let's work together.

I would like to ask the admin to move most of this thread into a new thread that solely focuses on the Carrefour boycott and protests.  I kind of veered things off a bit when I mentioned it was ok to go to Carrefour because of the police presence and the lack of protests, but I didn't think it would turn into this.  It's good to talk about this, but I hope it can be done in a separate thread.
