Juggling investments
« on: August 24, 2011, 05:34:01 am »

Juggling is an appropriate word to use however, shuffling also fits.

The golden rule for trading is,
Don't believe everything you read and hear, do your own research.
This section is more about gaining a financial education, getting help and expressing your own views and opinions based on News and Experience.

There are many experienced investors reading these posts and more interested but reluctant future investors.

All responsibiliy for your invesment is yours.
Ask questions, post some news and express away.

This should be a very interesting thread.

My strategy
Advice often given is "Not to put all eggs in the same basket"...
Damn, I want all my money on the best performer. I have seen the results of those who put all their money in one investment, often successfully and sometimes disasterously.

I tend to stick with the few things I know most about.

For long term investment, I go for property and use the equity built up to extend the housing loan for short to mid term investment which are generally the following.

CNY = Usable currency (CASH) - Time zone = GMT + 8
I tend to use CNY as my base currency as it’s a smaller increment compared to the other currencies as well as being the currency I currently live with. The CNY also is not subject to the constraints of most currencies, e.g. monitoring and monetary control.

AUD = Native currency, life-time experience - Time zone = GMT + 8
I tend to use AUD as my main purchase as it is the currency I lived with my whole life which is too much knowledge to ignore. The AUD is strong but fluctuates enough against the CNY to extract a nice supplement to my income with little effort.

EUR = Fluctuates but stable, undervalued
Occasionally I buy and sell EUR as the AUD will generally follow the EUR trends, when EUR falls, I expect to sell AUD for EUR, when it kicks, I expect to buy AUD.

GBP = Volatile but strong
Big gains can be made with the bankers currency, GBP has such a broad base across the world with it’s trading however it can also incur some serious loses. Requires close monitoring and good news.

USD = Low, soon to be volatile
I expect the USD to be influenced by many manipulators as it tries to recover. I don’t expect any magical surprises but I do anticipate some serious volatility during 2012.

Metals = Possible substantial gains
I prefer coins to ingots as coins have added collectors value

Stocks = Volatile but requires time to stay up-to-date
I have day traded stocks in the past but tend to only trade hot, top 500 stocks now with an interest developing in Chinese World listed stocks, soon China may be allowing foreigners to invest in its market.

¥100,000 is the ideal investment stake for measuring gains and losses.

I like currency, cash for cash.
I know the bills and expenses I have in each country in advance.
It's timing transfers of money which saves you the most.

I'm cool getting caught with cash rather than paper.

Forex trading is riskier than cash, the difference is, your cash is cash and remains the same value for that country where as forex is pairing currencies and gambling on the differences.

I hope and expect silver to do some very interesting things next year, people seem to be getting more concerned with the greed associated with GOLD and CURRENCY so are opting for the safer fields of art, industry and technology of SILVER.

Silver coins and jewelery have the added value of affordable collectiblity so are likely to develop a trend of appreciation. The technology demands for solar cell, electrical circuitry and other high-tech applications puts silver in a very desirable position.

But then, I've been wrong on things before but worth watching. I have a feeling that gold and silver could possibly play off each other, one up, one follows, one down, the other follows. pick correctly, WOW! pick wrong, WOW!
