Hi

I am Chinese in ethnicity but grown up in New Zealand, I was a  22 years old midwife in New Zealand and been working in Auckland Hospital for one year. My mother language is Engllish but can speak a little Chinese, Recently I had made a decision to continue my studies in anhui medical university in clinical medicine.

I arrived in Hefei two days ago and find it very difficult and is now questioning my decision.

I found Hefei is very different from what I was used to in New Zealand, where as at home it was very quite, clean, green and the living conditions are much better.

I would like to know your experience of moving to Hefei. I would be interesting to know your reason, your cultural , social, environmental, and economical adjustment in relocating to hefei.

i am finding it difficult on my own and I would also llike to make friends with fun, friendly, honest expats here that share the same experience  . I would love to meet up with u and make friends

Hi Shui,
How have you settled in so far?  ;D

This post has not been replied to, like others as many contacts are established through IM, so I'm asking for the 350 readers.  ???

Enjoying Hefei so far?

Shui has agreed to be Hefei Expat's Social Co-ordinator for the website and bar.

She may need an assistant soon...

How do you look in a slinky black evening gown? You could use a bun for your hair to make it look longer.

:P Not an image I want in my head...  ;D

Some posts look like they don't get responded to but in fact, many get replied to in Phone calls, E-mail and  Instant Messages.
Once you meet a few people, the social circles expand and multiply.

Sad to say, many expats don't return to the site to update postings. :'(

Ive been here 9 months and it took 10 beers, 4 tequilas shots to get settled in (Revs), which is equal to 4 hours..... and 1 hour of throwing up to get unsettled again.. so according to my calculations where a = b + C .....it should take you 5 hours to get settled in  :D . hope that helps..

for answering the topic..

been here about 14 months and still enjoying..
to settle it took.. a few weeks, than an extremely helpful italian guy went back to italy and left me tons of good stuff for the house..
and chinese friends/colleagues helped me to buy the rest..

oh.. i still do not speak chinese..

and the reasons that will take me away from Hefei have really little to do with city dimension or life or similar.. that i really like!  ;D

Bonnie:

mainly joking.. and paraphrasing one of my favorite movies EVER: Blade Runner

sometimes i do think about chinese man walking around fondling their own big belly with a pure expression of enjoyment.. (difficult to explain to my italian and norwegian friends)

or norwegian hot elegant modern intelligent educated girls using the special tobacco called snus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus) and spitting every three minutes..  (difficult to explain to my italian and international friends)

or a disgusting criminal dwarf elected several times to govern my country, Italy, even if completely corrupted and under trials for several things that would destroy a normal person.. (difficult to explain to my norwegian and international friends)

 ;)
these are just a few thoughts......  ;D

I came to Hefei in 2001, also my first time to China.  While I no longer live full time in Hefei I have lived in Hefei for a total of 3+ years (not continuous). I got settled in about a month after loosing about 10kg in that first month, not saying I didn't need to shed a few but that was a quick ramp down.
