I am interested to hear from any foreigners who might be engaged in distance swimming for fitness in Hefei; where, when, how?
Address and info of 25 - 50 metre pools suitable for training in are much welcomed.

I guess it is not permissable to swim at the Dongpu reservoir area.
Now that would be nice and as it is a huge lake it would be much lower in toxic levels. I would gladly take a weekly trip out there for a 2 km swim were it permissable.

Any swimmers interested in forming a training group twice, thrice, etc. ?  Mornings preferably - around 9-11 am or advise me where I can find a suitable venue in the city zone that can accomodate these times. It must be min 20 mt long pool (preferably 25 or 50 outdoor) with flat sides to kick off or tumble turn off.

Some have swum in the lakes but only early morning like 3.00am.

Tien He "Swan Lake" prohibits swimming but you can paddle to the rope.
I tried to go for a swim but they were quick to stop me.

I've seen chinese long distance swim in other parts of the lake.
Usually up the Western end.

I wouldn't trust the other lakes to be clean enough.

It's a great place to play cricket though.

We've been out with my brother for swimming lately for several times. Swimming pools around Hefei are typically open in the late afternoon and closing early like 6.

Time constraints does matter. Keep posting infos for a swimming pool that opens at night even 'till 10.

There's an outdoor (clean) Olympic-sized swimming pool at Hefei Sports, the sporting complex on the north side of the CBD on Fu Nan Lu (阜南路). You need to buy a membership at the window to the gym-building. If you walk in the gate on Fu Nan Lu, go straight until you get to the fence around the track, then look left. The building you are looking for has double doors and a membership sales window just to the left with a big sign listing all the prices on it on the wall. The gym also has a very large, open, well-lit weight room, which I use regularly, and a aerobics room where fitness classes are held.
