Places for pizza

I thought I would start this thread for all those people that crave pizza from time to time, and want to hear different people's experiences.
For myself, I have tried pizza at a few places. I will list them below, with my thoughts.
Pizza Hut - For the price, it's not worth it in my book. There are other places around Hefei that probably can do a better job in this department. The taste of the pizza (I think I got a Supreme, or something like that) was ok, but again, not at that price.
Old Tree Coffee Shop (Hu Po, near the library) - Awful. They have changed their cooks quite a lot over the years, but the last time I tried their pizza, which was around a couple months ago, it tasted bad. The toppings from what I remember were descent, but the sauce was just awful. Bitter tasting and just felt it wasn't suited to be put on a pizza. And they used that same sauce for their spaghetti. Killed that too. Price was average, but for that pizza, should have been a lot less. UPDATE: This place is no longer there. They tore it down to make way for a new road or something like that. I guess you can say it was a blessing considering the review I gave for their pizza.
Pizza Amici - The one I went to is located in Carrefour, Chang Jiang location, 3rd floor. This is pretty much the best pizza I have tasted here in Hefei, including Pizza Hut. The bread is not great, which pretty much goes for all the pizzas here, but everything else seems pretty good. And the price is average, maybe even on the cheaper side, considering the size you can get.
Ding Gua Gua - A place in Carrefour as well that is a buffet-style restaurant that offers a little foreign foods as well, such as pizza. There pizza is awful (not as bad as Old Tree, but still). I will never go back there, at least not for their pizza. But I will say, their spaghetti is probably the best I have tried in Hefei. For the pizza though, go elsewhere.
If you know of any others, please add them to the list. I am hoping to find some new places around town, and maybe others are hoping this as well for them.

The big hotels do pizza: Swiss-bel used to have a 2 for 1 deal on wednesdays; not been for a while though. The pizza there was okay, but i think we're struggling to find anywhere in hefei that actually has "good" Pizza though.
The Pizza Amici place has decent pizza - the stuffed crust being about the best i've tried. The service there is mind-numbingly slow however.
Ther's a place on Changjiang Zhong lu, near Huangshan Daxia. They need to sort their sauce out, but otherwise okay. We called it "Rhys's Pizza Place" after the guy to discovered it, but i've no idea what's it's real name is! It has a sign outside saying "Well Come"
The best pizza I've had in China was in the Shanghai Pudong Novotel. They have a great italian restaurant. (really!) Complete with a help-yourself unlimited cheese board (mozzarella, feta, parmesan etc), sun-dried tomatos, olives etc. I'm welling up just thinking about it...

It's called the "Roman Pizza House".
The pizza is fairly good but can be a bit oily.
Prices are about 18 RMB for a 7" and 30RMB for the 9", I think there is a larger one aswell.
They do a thick or thin for the 9" but only do thick for the 7".
I quite like the Pizza there compared to what else is available in Hefei.
They will deliver locally early in the evening.
The standard menu is Chinese with pictures and they also have one in English for Pizza.

I'm going to try that stuffed crust pizza at Pizza Amici. I didn't know they had that there. As for the service, I went there on their downtime, so I pretty much was at the front of the line so to speak.
I will try the Swiss-bel place and see if they still have that special going. If not, I will try them out regardless. I want to also stop by that Roman Pizza House place. The price is sure reasonable, that's for sure. And I like the thin and thick options as well.
Just to add to what was already said, in all the places that I have visited, most of them have peas and carrots on their veggie pizzas. What's up with that? In Canada, we don't use those toppings, so maybe it's just a Chinese thing. Awful, in my opinion. Oh, it's too bad that HJ Coffee closed down, at least the ones that I knew about. I used to order from the one at Parkson's, but they are no longer there. As well as a couple other locations that I knew about. I think their pizza, as well as some of their other foreign foods were quite good. I loved their club sandwiches. Anyone have any info about what happened to them?

I went to Swiss-Bel today and tried out their pizza (among other things, but since it's a pizza thread, I will just comment on it). They don't have that Wed. special anymore, so I decided to get 1 pizza that had ham, tomato, green peppers, and two other toppings that I forgot. When I open the box, the display of how the pizza looked like was quite nice, but when I took a bit of it, I lost a lot of my feelings that were built up. The crust.......there wasn't any! Well, there was bread, but that is all that you can call that. Nothing "crusty" about it, which was quite a letdown. The toppings were ok, but the sauce was just so-so. Overall, for the price, and the non-crust issue, I will not be eating that again from there.

I had walked by the Pizza Amici place in carrefour several times but never had the chance to check it out. Thanks to the information on this thread, I will check out the place the next time I'm at Carrefour (which according to my fridge, will be soon!).

Sounds good, just make sure you check to make sure they don't put peas and carrots there, if you just ask for a "vegge pizza".
My wife did that, and I paid for that later (eating the god awful thing).

I just came back from a place called Bit Burger, which I am sure that some of the people here have already visited for whatever reason. I went in to check it out, and ordered the Mexican Pizza something or other, and Fajitas. The pizza is better than Ding Gua Gua and Swiss-Bel overall, but still misses the mark in my opinion. The toppings aren't anything special, and the bread is quite thin, which is not what I usually eat from back home (Canada), which is ok, because this is China. So, for a Chinese-style pizza, I guess you can rate it a so-so.
I just want to add that I went there around 5pm and talked with a nice bartender girl named Rikki (REE KEE). So, the service was really nice.

Hey, I tasted the pizza from Pizza Amici at the Carrefour the other day. It was really really good and pretty inexpensive. The spagetti and meat sauce was very good as well. Service, atmosphere, and frendliness were all acceptable as well. I recomend that place to everyone.

Today, I thought I would check out the fourth floor of Wal Mart, and I found a place that makes pizza. So, I decided to give it a try. It's called Camilla's Kitchen.
My thoughts...pizza dough was pretty bad. I felt like it wasn't cooked/baked for enough time. The sauce was pretty much non-existent . The only thing not bad about it was the toppings and cheese were decent. I ordered a veggie pizza, but I found some bacon on it, as well as some ham. Maybe they threw it in there because of what I said, liking pizza with some meat in it. The service was good, no one there at that time so all eyes and attention was given to my order. Pizza price....38RMB for a 9 inch.
Overall, it's not the worst pizza I have eaten here, but it's also not something that I would like to try again any time soon. I need the dough to make it's way through my digestive tract before I possibly give it another go.

Today I had another pizza from Pizza Amici. It was a 12 inch Supreme I think, or something with a lot of toppings. My wife got it for me, so I don't know exactly, but it had sausage, red/green hot peppers, mushrooms, pepperoni, a few olive shards, onions, and corn. I might be forgetting a topping, but that's the gist of it. Once again, I feel their pizza is the best in Hefei, but I do have to point out some things. I have the opposite feeling about their stuffed crust pizza. It was not really good. And my wife asked them to omit the red/green hot peppers, but no luck (she is Chinese by the way), so we had to pick it off. Even with that, still felt the spice from the peppers, which I can't stand. All in all, good pizza.
I still haven't measured this pizza up to what the Hilton has to offer, so we'll just leave it as it is, the best pizza in Hefei that I have tried.

Rico informs me that the Golden Laurel on the 29th floor of the Holiday Inn now has an Italian corner.
They have pizza at 48RMB (plus the cursed 15%)
I haven't been there yet but I'll try to get there soon and give a more informed review.

Not if I can get there first, Aussie Mike. haha
What's this about 15%? Am I in a country that takes tips now or something? Or that taxes things like crazy (which my home country in Canada loves to do)?
Anyways, I will give it a try and review as well, when I get the chance.
