Im desperate for some western food and I find the imported areas of Carrefour and wal-mart not enough!
Is Metro what I need? Do I need some kind of card to enter or is that a myth?

YES, Metro is what you want!  Wal-mart in China is quite laughable.  Metro has a large imported foods sections.  You don't need a card in Metro, though they might offer you one.  The card does not give you any benefits, aside from supposedly speeding up checkout, which it doesn't really do.  I do recommend bringing 1+ plastic bags if you plan to buy a lot.  The only bags they offer are giant cloth bags which cost 6 RMB.

You can tell the taxi driver "may duh long" (approximate pronunciation, not spelling), which is Metro's name.

Warning: The road in front of Metro suddenly went under construction a few weeks ago, and you will have to come in and out the back entrance.  You may have some trouble finding a taxi when you leave.  I got lost and my battery nearly died when I went there on my scooter a few days ago and discovered this fact.

Yes, a business card but you can still make purchases without one.

Hmm, maybe I should get a business card.  I'm pretty sure I buy more than the business people I see in there...

I often go to Metro: best western place here in Hefei!
I got my ingredients for the best tiramisu you can find in China.. and now Perfetto restaurant makes it according to my recipe Smiley))

beside mascarpone and lady finger biscuits, i am very happy from what i can find there..

carrefour was a disappointment..

about the road works.. i wrote at length on my blog, but since it also suddenly ended on the wrong side of the Chinese great firewall, i spare you links that would not open  Grin
but i spent some long walks in the cold when the bus suddenly stop in a place i did not know.. and i had only my compass and my knowledge of the terrain to guide me to Metro......  Wink

i hope you managed to find it and get what you needed..
a pity i did not checked the site for long time..

cheers
andy
